Joy Tanner wood and soda fired pottery

As a potter, I am drawn to the subtle details I observe in nature, such as the way a leaf is connected to its stem, the variation in ripples of water, or the tones of shadows and filtered light.  This interplay between repetition and variation through the use of line, texture and depth continually brings new discoveries to my work in clay.  Firing my wheel thrown stoneware and porcelain in a soda kiln further enhances these variations within the textured surfaces.  It is my hope that by bringing these details into closer view, each pot I have created will possess the energy and insights I gather from my surroundings.

Thank you for visiting my website. You’ll find my current work in the gallery, a glimpse of my process in the studio, a chance to catch up with my pottery blog, and a way to shop my pots online.

Hope you enjoy!
